3G Networks Could Support FaceTime in iOS 5

When it launched iOS 4, Apple explained that iPhone owners could not use the FaceTime feature via mobile phone network service. Users had only two options to activate FaceTime phone calls: via Wi-Fi connections or by installing various tweaks from Cydia that enabled them to use the FaceTime feature over 3G networks as well. Things are looking brighter now, since it appears that Apple is about to let its customers to make FaceTime calls over 3G.
A screenshot photo of an iPhone running iOS 5 has been posted on the Internet clearly showing that users are asked to activate the 3G network provided by the carrier to activate FaceTime. It is unlikely that the question be a mistake from Apple’s side.

iPhone owners will need the carriers’ permission to use the FaceTime feature over 3G. This means that carriers will have provided access to the VoIP networks for iPhone users to enable the feature. However, users can install tweaks on their smartphones and make FaceTime phone calls over 3G without the carriers’ permission. To put it differently, permission from carrier becomes a bit superfluous now.
Let us not forget that we are talking about the first beta version of iOS 5 and Apple could remove the feature by the time the company officially launches its gold master iOS 5 version. Nevertheless, 3G FaceTime phone calls represent a useful feature especially when users want to make FaceTime calls but no Wi-Fi network is available nearby.
Apple still has enough time to enhance iOS 5 until iPhone 5 launch. It is their chance to listen to customers’ complaints and to come up with a top-notch iPhone that could dissipate the doubts on Apple’s product.
