According to this latest information they’ve uncovered, a new iPhone model and new iPad are getting ready to be field tested. The code they’ve found refers to new code names of iPhone3,2, iPhone3,3, and iProd2,1 and allows them to “auto-activate” which means they don’t have to be activated through iTunes. And if we look at the past every device has been set to “auto-activate” before it’s officially released and then the code is removed just before its release.
Way down deep within iOS 4 is a pretty intriguing block of code. Our source says that the code queries the device, and if the device is either a CDMA iPhone or iPad 2, the device will auto-activate, thus bypassing the need for iTunes. We’re told this block of code has appeared every year consecutively before a major iPhone / device release, removed right before launch. Now the “iProd2,1″ is almost certainly the next generation iPad, however we’re a little confused as to why there’s 2 iPhone codes. The fact that there only iPhone3,2 and iPhone3,3 and not iPhone 4,x leads us to believe that there’s nothing major in the way of hardware and design, so this would lead us to believe it could be something simply, like a CDMA iPhone, compatible with Verizon.
The second iPhone model could be destined for a different carrier network for all we know.
In the past, iPhone codes like iPhone 3,1 appeared with the “auto-activate” attribute and then 6 months later it was released, that turned out to be the iPhone 4. So this would lead us to believe that the Verizon iPhone could launch roughly 6 months from now, so that would be early sometime next year.
No matter which way you look at it, evidence is increasingly mounting for a Verizon iPhone.
