Is There A Verizon iPhone Coming?

These past few days have dashed any hopes of a Verizon iPhone, and then moments later our souls were brought back from the brink as we latched onto any glimmer of hope that hinted at a Verizon iPhone.
So what is the current situation?
Well it’s been confirmed that Apple and AT&T signed a contract which would see the iPhone being available exclusively to AT&T in the US for 5 years. . A 5 year contract would have maintained AT&T iPhone exclusivity into 2012 as it began back in 2007 along with the release of the first iPhone.
First off this would rule out any possibility of Verizon getting the iPhone, but then word from the Wall Street Journal Claimed that AT&T’s exclusivity would be up in 2010, which would leave Verizon free to bring the iPhone to their network. We’ve also heard from various analysts that there would be no Verizon iPhone this year, but they were contradicted by others who said there would be a Verizon iPhone.
It’s all very confusing, but even more news has popped up now. There are speculations that Apple’s Contract with AT&T has gone under renegotiation and been edited which would see it ending this year. Yet this is again contradicted by yet more of these Analysts from Credit Suisse, UBS and Hudson Square Research, who say there is no Verizon iPhone happening this year, along with Barclays capital analyst Vijay Jayant.
But what do these Analysts know? How often have they been wrong in the past?
We’ve now got word that Verizon is in fact working on an Ad-Campaign for the iPhone, from Crunchgear;
Ladnor has been working on Verizon branding since 2007 and is, according to a tipster, now hard at work preparing for the iPhone HD launch.
So to be brutally honest with you, I personally have no idea if the iPhone will be coming to Verizon this year, it would make sense for Apple to bring it to Verizon, but AT&T wouldn’t be too happy with the amount of customers they could lose.
I reckon it will at some stage, but honestly can’t say if it’s this year or not.
( Just on a side note, the quote from Crunchgear hints that the next iPhone will be called the iPhone HD, goes along with another rumor we’ve had)
