Is There A 3D iPhone In The Works?

While we still wait to see if the Verizon iPhone will ever come to life, not to mention a 4G compatible iPhone, we’re already speculating to the iPhone of the future, it may not be the iPhone 5, or even the iPhone 6, in fact it may never come to life, but it’s always fun to speculate.
The latest is a 3D iPhone. Why? Well recently Apple were awarded a US Patent for a stereoscopic three-dimensional display system that doesn’t require glasses according to Patently Apple

The patent itself is all very complicated so I’ve tried to decipher it and translated it into bog standard laymans English!
Here is (what I think!) are the main points:
1) There will be 2 images, one for each eye which will provide 3D images and will mean that Glasses WONT be required.
2) More than one person will be able to look at the screen and experience the same 3D experience at the same time
3) The display will use real time tracking of  the observers’ eye positions to so you will get realistic viewing angles.
4) There will be some clever little technology in it that will allow you to view the screen from several different angles without losing the 3D effect
I’m sure you can let your imaginations run wild as to the kind of applications which could take advantage of this 3D technology, imagine 3D Facetime! and other augmented reality Apps. The list is endless!
So what do you think?
Could this find it’s way into an iPhone ever? What would you use it for? Would it be practical?
