We previously covered a rumor that Apple were working on a new headphone jack, at the time we didn’t think much of this, but now we’ve realised that this could give Apple the ability to make the iPhone 5 even thinner without having to accommodate the regular width of the current 3.5 mm jack. However, I cant imagine Apple managing to shrink everything down enough to have a fully functioning phone of that width.
The second rumor we’ve got comes from yet another patent application. This particular one refers to a new type of camera flash. The flash would use a redirector to shift the peak of the light’s spatial energy profile, effectively pointing the light in different directions and at times reducing the strength of the flash. Light could be redirected automatically, using an evaluator to detect where a scene needs the most lighting, or manually, with the user touching the screen to focus flash, in the same way that auto-focus is implemented now.
If you don’t really understand that, don’t worry, I’m a bit baffeled by it too!
If Apple were to implement this flash feature, only the 5th gen iPhone could get it as the iPhone is there only device that actually has a flash on it at the moment.
Anyway, we’ve still lots of time to throw around more rumors before the release date of the iPhone 5, I’ll let you know of anymore that appear!
