Apple & Verizon Still In Talks Over CDMA iPhone

I guess it’s time for yet another Verizon iPhone rumor, and what rumor would be complete without a word in from an analyst?
This time its Shaw Wu with Kaufman Bros who said in a note to investors today that he expects Apple to expand the iPhone to other carriers in the US next year. Apple needs to do this if they wish to continue their high growth as the AT&T network is pretty much saturated at this stage.

The current front runner is Verizon and they are in talks with Apple for a “SVDO” iPhone which will allow voice and data at the same time, something which is not traditionally possible on Verizons CDMA network.
“It is notable that signing up both T-Mobile USA and Sprint would almost be the equivalent of Verizon (in terms of subscribers),” he said. “For point of reference, AT&T has 90 million wireless subscribers compared to 93 million at Verizon, 48 million at Sprint, and 34 million at T-Mobile USA.”
Wu believes that the iPhone will come to Verizon one day, but it could be as late as 2012, since Apple are still in talks with Sprint and T-Mobile as well.
However, since Android is growing so rapidly, especially on the Verizon network, it’s in Apples interest to get their device onto their network to try and slow the surge in Android sales.
At the moment lots of rumors are pointing towards a January 2011 release, with reports of CDMA iPhones being tested and AT&T’s exclusivity ending
