Next Gen iPhone To Lose Home Button?

Now that the whole Verizon iPhone fiasco is finally over, we can get back to reporting on some more wild and outrageous rumors which may just turn out to be true one day. The iPhone 5 will probably launch sometime this summer, if Apple follows its usual product cycle.
Boy Genius Reports on a source that is boldly suggesting that Apple are looking to remove the home button from the iPhone and iPad all together!
We are told that Apple, at some point in time, will remove the home button from the iPad’s design. Instead of button taps, you will use new multitouch gestures to navigate to the home screen and also to launch the app switcher
Now this source isn’t very reliable and BGR have been wrong on several occasions in the past but in fairness to them they have been right a good bit as well. It’s a bit hit and miss, but the source claims that Apple employees are already testing iPhone’s and iPad’s without any home key in Cupertino. Users would access the home screen with a five finger pinch and access the multitasking interface by swiping up.
I don’t know how practical this would be, especially on the smaller iPhone screen. It would tie in with recent multi-touch improvements that have been discovered in iOS 4.3
Also discovered in iOS 4.3 is proof of the next generation iPhone 5. Both a GSM and CDMA version of the iPhone 5 can be seen when you dig deep into the code.

The two you’re looking out for here are “iPhone 4,1″ and “iPhone 4,2″ the current iPhone 4 is “iPhone 3,1″ and the CDMA Verizon one is “iPhone 3,2″
I must admit, it’s nice not to have to cover any more news about a US carrier get the iPhone for the moment! Let the rumors continue!
